What’s going on in Gaza right now
The people living in the Gaza Strip are going through a very serious humanitarian crisis. The United Nations and other aid groups are trying to help, but they are facing big problems in getting aid into the area because of the ongoing conflict and heavy fighting.
People are being forced out of their homes
Ms. Hastings said that many people in Gaza have already had to leave their homes because of fear for their lives or because their houses were destroyed by airstrikes. At least 200,000 out of about 2.2 million people in Gaza have been displaced. Most of these families are now staying in schools run by the UN Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), which has been opened as temporary shelter.
Humanitarian aid is getting blocked
The UN and its partners are trying to provide food, water, medicine, tents, and other help, especially for people who have lost their homes. But getting supplies into Gaza has been cut off or very limited, and the fighting makes it even harder for aid workers to reach people who need help.
This means fewer trucks carrying food and water can enter Gaza, and sometimes it’s too dangerous for staff to move around inside the territory.

Water supplies have been reduced
In the statement, Ms. Hastings also pointed out that Israeli authorities have cut Gaza’s water supply, making clean drinking water even more scarce. This adds to the already serious shortages of basic things like safe water, food, and fuel.
Clean water is essential not just for drinking but also for cooking, washing, and staying healthy. Losing access to water makes life much harder for families, especially children and older people.
Why this matters
The combination of forced displacement, destroyed homes, lack of water, and blocked aid makes the situation in Gaza extremely tough. Without regular and safe access for humanitarian supplies, many people are left without the help they urgently need.
